Each state and territory in Australia provides its senior citizens with a Seniors Card. They are issued free of charge and are not income or assets tested. Holders of the Seniors Card can claim discounts and special offers on goods and services from certain local businesses and government agencies. When travelling interstate, businesses participating in their local Seniors Card program may honour an interstate Senior Card upon request.
As of January 1 2009, a Seniors Card issued in any state or territory will also provide you with discounted travel on public transport anywhere in Australia, except for Western Australia and rural Queensland. In these areas, you still need to be a local cardholder to claim public transport discounts.
We have provided the general details of the Senior Card in each state and territory below. You will also find links to the relevant government agency websites. Simply click on your state or territory to jump to the relevant information.
