Charity Focus

Every month, SeniorSpace highlights an Australian charity providing much needed services and resources to those who need them urgently.

The Movember Foundation is a non-profit charity that runs the annual men's health event, Movember. Each year, around the world, men grow moustaches with the aim of raising awareness and funds for men's health. In Australia, funds raised go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue: the national depression initiative.

Participating in Movember is simple. At the start of Movember, formerly known as the month of November, men register at the Movember website. Starting with a clean shaven face, they have the rest of the month to grow their moustaches to raise awareness and funds for men's health. The end of the month culminates with parties held at home, the office or public events.

Known as Mo Bros, they act as public advertisements for the importance of men's health, in particular prostate cancer and depression. Women are involved too. Known as Mo Sistas, they perform the important tasks of recruiting Mo Bros, raising funds and supporting the men in their lives.
