Queensland Art Gallery

A part of the Queensland Cultural Centre located in South Bank in Brisbane, the Gallery's collection holds more than 11,000 pieces of contemporary and historical Australian, Indigenous Australian and international works of art.

Normal opening hours are 10am – 5pm on weekdays and 9am – 5pm on weekends. General admission is free.

Gallery of Modern Art

Opening in 2006 as the newest part of the Queensland Cultural Centre in Brisbane's South Bank, this Gallery houses all of the modern and contemporary art from the Queensland Art Gallery's collection.

Normal opening hours are 10am – 5pm on weekdays and 9am – 5pm on weekends. General admission is free.

Easton Pearson

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Brisbane-based fashion label Easton Pearson, the exhibition features their designs, sources of inspiration, and the fabrics and materials used in their glamourous designs.

On display 22 August – 8 November. Free entry.

Nurreegoo: The Art and Life of Ron Hurley 1946 – 2002

Celebrating the artistic and cultural achievements of Aboriginal artist Ron Hurley, this exhibition showcases his most important works.

On display 8 August – 25 October. Free entry.

Floating Life: Contemporary Aboriginal Fibre Art

Highlighting the importance of fibre to Aboriginal culture, on display are more than 300 objects that were either commissioned or acquired by the Queensland Art Gallery.

Small acts

An exhibition of installed video works featuring contemporary video art and cinema practice from across Asia and the Middle East, each artist performs acts alone or with others in front of the camera that can be comical, physical or incomprehensible.

The view from elsewhere

Displayed in conjunction with Small acts, this exhibition is being held in the Australian Cinematheque section of the Gallery. Featuring feature films, documentaries, short films and video art, it seeks to extend the artistic possibilities of cinematic expression.

Tim Johnson: Painting Ideas

Covering the artist's work from the 1970s to the present, it displays his underlying influences from and beliefs in Aboriginal, humanist and Buddhist philosophies.

Peopled: Contemporary Art from the Collection

Featuring paintings, videos and installations, this exhibition displays the ongoing interest artists and their audiences maintain in the human form.

On display 13 June – 25 October. Free entry.

Breaking Boundaries: Contemporary Indigenous Australian Art from the Collection

Displaying a wide range of different styles and practices through different media, a number of different Indigenous Australian artists showcase their work in this exhibition.

Queensland Museum

Located in the Queensland Cultural Centre at South Bank in Brisbane, this museum features a number of different exhibits that explore science, the environment and society.

Normal opening hours are 9:30am – 5pm. General admission is free.

Shanghai Bound

Created to celebrate Queensland's Sister State Agreement with Shangahi, this exhibition pays tribute to the shared wildlife of the two cities. Migratory shorebirds pass through both cities during the year as they breed in the north and spend the rest of the year in the south.

Playasaurus Place

This exhibit combines the Museum's collection of life-sized dinosaurs with an interactive story of the history of energy that encourages visitors to consider their energy use now and into the future.

The Courage of Ordinary Men: Three Stories of the Victoria Cross

By utilising original letters and photos, a sound and light show, poetry and descriptive narratives, this exhibition tells the stories behind three Australian soldiers who were awarded the Victoria Cross for their courageous conduct on the battlefields of World War 1.

The Investigator Tree and Charles Darwin: The Reluctant Revolutionary

This display provides the details of Darwin's life from his experiences as a young boy to that of the famous theorist of evolution.

Queensland Stories: People Places Past Present

Displaying historical artefacts, archival film and photographs, this exhibition explores the key people, places and events that have influenced Queensland over its 150 year history.

Final Cut

Presenting more than 40 intimate images of mammals, birds, insects and corals taken by the Museum's nature photographers in Queensland over a number of years.

Getting Sorted

For the first time in its history, the Museum is putting on display the millions of objects it has collected over 150 years. These objects are arranged into the areas of biodiversity, cultures and histories and geosciences.

Museuem Zoo

Featuring over 700 prehistoric and modern animals, this exhibition examines the relationship between all animals on earth, past and present. You are able to compare your size against those of the animals on display with the 'real size' outlines.
