Looking Glass Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008
Kirsty Glatezer, formerly white winemaker at Wolf Blass, and Jane Osborne have teamed up to produce a sensational wine. Made from three distinct parcels of grapes from the Awatere and Waihopai Valleys and Watts Road regions of Marlborough give complexity to this wine. It shows lingering tropical and passionfruit aromas and flavours, with zingy, gooseberry and subtle fresh herbal characters.
Yellowglen Yellow Sparkling NV
This is non-vintage wine with fruit being sourced from vineyards throughout south eastern Australia. It is light straw in colour with a persistent bead. The wine displays melon, pineapple and citrus characteristics. It is full and generous with a lovely feel, and fresh with a classy, crisp, clean finish. One of the most popular sparkling wines in Australia, it offers great value.
Rosemount Estate Show Reserve Traditional Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
From the McLaren Vale region. Deep red in colour with purple hues. The nose brims with sweet lifted fruit aromas, leafy Cabernet characters and briar like, almost earthy tones. The palate shows good weight with generous flavours - Cabernet fruit, tobacco leaf and spice. It is a lovely, even wine with long, dry tannins that flow right throughout the finish. An Australian icon in its day offering great value for money. Created by award winning winemaker Charles Whish.
Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2005
Multi regional Aussie icon from Penfolds, it can be thought of as baby Grange! The nose is separated from the others in the Penfolds Bin family by the overt high notes of its barrel fermentation contribution. This is archetypal Bin 389 with notes of marachino marinated dark berries mixed with dark chocolate, baysleaf and black (kalamata) olives. The 2005 Bin 389 is complete, full and multidimensional from start to finish, its weight coupled with understated power, depth and length. Ripe fig, blueberry and dark plum fruit flavours synergise to create an ink/dense palate with no rough edges. The oak and plush tannins are at one with the wine, eliciting no one dominant feature and a seamless palate.
Able to cellar until 2028, this is perhaps the most iconic of all Australian wines. Its colour is deep, dark and impenetrable. A rich mix of dark chocolate infused with coffee bean and black liquorice, then scents of tar, aniseed, raw (pure) soy and black olive. A rich, full-flavoured and concentrated wine with complex rum/raisin dark chocolate, liquorice, quince paste and dried fruit notes. Prominent, well integrated tannins align with oak (all but soaked up by the fruits) to create a lingering continuum of flavours and tactile presistence. Beautifully balanced, this 100% Barossa wine delivers the expectations demanded of a Grange from this vintage.
